Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network – WECAN has released its Action Plan for the Peoples Climate March & Climate Week in New York September 21-23. Read and print the details for the WECAN Climate Week 2014.Highlights include:
On September 21st a delegation representing Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network – WECAN will take to the streets of New York City, joining thousands of allies in raising women’s voices at the ‘Peoples Climate March’. Soon to be the largest climate march in history, the Peoples Climate March seeks to “bend the course of history”, drawing global attention and exerting direct pressure on attendees of the UN Climate Summit. WECAN encourages everyone who is able to march with us on this momentous day as we mobilize for the rights of women, indigenous peoples, nature, and future generations. On September 22nd, WECAN International will host ‘Women Leading Solutions on the Front Lines of Climate Change’, an extraordinary afternoon of women leaders joined in solidarity to speak out against activities and policies that threaten the environment, our communities, and the very future of life as we know it. Presentations will highlight the role of women worldwide as innovators and agents of change, and explore means of strengthening the network of women leaders who are on the frontline of the transition to a just and sustainable future. WECAN’s newly released Women’s Climate Action Agenda will be shared and discussed at the event, to be held at the UN Church Center in New York City from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Immediately following ‘Women Leading Solutions’ on September 22nd, WECAN leaders and allies will convene for the second day of the ‘Wall of Women’ action. For details see: wecaninternational.org/climate-march-2014-gallery On September 23rd, WECAN International and the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature will host an afternoon panel and strategy session on the ‘Rights of Nature and Systemic Change in Climate Solutions’ from 2:15-3 pm at the Church Center of the United Nations. The event is founded with the conviction that modern legal systems have failed to adequately address environmental and social degradation, and that a new paradigm which treats nature as a right-bearing entity is at the heart of genuine climate solutions. Panelists will provide an introduction to the Rights of Nature and discuss International Rights of Nature Ethics Tribunals, community applications of the Rights of Nature as a tool for protection and resiliency, and much more.More information at WECAN People’s Climate March and Week of Action
