Solón is the former Bolivian Ambassador to the United Nations, and prior to taking on various diplomatic postings with the Morales government in 2006, he was an activist with social change movements based in La Paz. As UN Ambassador, Solón spearheaded successful resolutions on the Human Right to Water, International Mother Earth Day, Harmony with Nature and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. He helped initiate the World People’s Conference on Climate Change in Cochabamba in April 2010, and in December was the sole voice of conscience opposing US and EU domination of the COP16 in Cancun.
