Under the banner “Amazonia, One Territory,” FOSPA is an autonomous, regional platform bringing together Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant communities, local leaders, social movements, and civil society from all nine countries of the Amazon Basin. Facing mounting pressures from climate change and resource extraction, FOSPA serves as a vital space for collective reflection, political strategy, and building alternatives to protect the world’s largest tropical rainforest. As a centerpiece of this year’s forum, we are also proud to co-host the 3rd Regional Rights of Nature Tribunal for a Fossil Fuel-Free Amazon on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Convening at the Casa de la Cultura “Benjamín Carrión” in Puyo, this open hearing will bring together community leaders, legal experts, and international judges to examine six emblematic fossil fuel extraction cases spanning Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, and Bolivia. Grounded in Earth-centered jurisprudence, the Tribunal will evaluate the impacts of oil and gas expansion on local communities and ecosystems, fostering regional collaboration toward a fossil fuel-free Amazon.
