The Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature (GARN) is proud to recognize Roberta Bosu as this month’s Outstanding Member of the Month, for her role in one of the most exciting emerging fronts of the Rights of Nature movement: the legal recognition of Antarctica as a living, rights-bearing entity.
Originally from Sardinia, Italy, and now based in the Netherlands, Roberta is a strategist, storyteller, and environmental advocate working to transform how we relate to the Earth’s most fragile ecosystems.
As Global Campaign Lead for Antarctic Rights, Roberta is helping shape a transformative global initiative. A few years ago, a small group asked a bold question: “What if Antarctica could speak for itself?” Today, that question has become a movement, now almost 300 individuals and 60 organizations strong. On December 1st, the world celebrated the first-ever Antarctica Day, marking the official launch of the Antarctic Rights Alliance.
Roberta is also the founder of Re.vert Studio, where she develops narratives that bridge scientific research and public engagement. Her work spans policy, climate communication, regenerative economics, and food systems, with a focus on shifting cultural worldviews toward reciprocity with Nature. Through her roles as a European Climate Pact Ambassador, World Food Forum Representative, lecturer, and active member of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication, Roberta mobilizes diverse audiences around eco-centric governance solutions.
Reflecting on this recognition, Roberta shares:
“Before falling in love with Antarctica and discovering the Rights of Nature, I was an environmentalist on a mission to protect Nature. Now, through my work with GARN, I recognize I am no longer standing outside trying to protect Nature as an object, but standing with Nature as a legal and living subject, grounded in reciprocity and respect. The best part? I get to do it alongside a global alliance full of amazing humans.”
