We are thrilled to name Pella Thiel as our GARN Outstanding Member of the Month. Based in Sweden, Pella is a long-standing champion of the Rights of Nature who continues to break new ground in both advocacy and storytelling.
Her latest initiative, the podcast On the Rights of Nature, lifts up the voices behind the global movement: the thinkers, lawyers, and grassroots defenders who are transforming our relationship with the natural world. The show invites listeners into conversations that deepen our collective understanding of Nature’s legal standing and cultural significance.
At the same time, Pella is helping to establish the Embassy of the Baltic Sea, a new platform to recognize the Baltic as a legal entity with inherent rights. This transboundary effort aims to connect people from across the 13 countries in the Baltic catchment area and lays the foundation for a stronger Rights of Nature presence in Northern Europe.
As she says, “Rights of Nature is the indispensable ethical and legal foundation of any healthy human culture. When I came across this movement, it struck me as absolutely necessary, but also very far removed from practical application. It has been an astonishing bliss to see how fast it has been moving the last decade, not least through the efforts of GARN.”

Este mes celebramos con alegría a Pella Thiel, activista sueca, facilitadora del movimiento por los Derechos de la Naturaleza en Europa y fundadora de iniciativas pioneras que buscan transformar la forma en que nos relacionamos con el mundo natural.
Entre sus contribuciones más destacadas está la creación del nuevo podcast On the Rights of Nature, un espacio donde comparte las voces y experiencias de personas que están liderando el cambio hacia un paradigma legal y ético que reconozca a la Naturaleza como sujeto de derechos. Con este proyecto, Pella busca visibilizar la diversidad del movimiento global y fortalecer su identidad colectiva.
Además, Pella impulsa la Embajada del Mar Báltico, una propuesta innovadora que busca dar voz legal y cultural a este ecosistema vital que une a 13 países. Desde Suecia, trabaja junto a un pequeño equipo para construir una plataforma regional que promueva el reconocimiento del Mar Báltico como una entidad viva con derechos, con el objetivo de articular esfuerzos entre ciencia, política, activismo y saberes locales.
