The Climate Train arrives in Durban to traditional African dance and ceremony!
The COP17 Climate Train was greeted in Durban by a range of dignitaries Including National Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres and Chief of the COP17 Negotiations and EThekwini Speaker Rogie Naidoo.
Brass bands and Zulu dancers platform created a festive greeting to welcome the train with its team and artists. The train traveled through South Africa in November on its way to Durban to spread awareness to far-flung communities, who are often most vulnerable to climate change and its severe weather events.
At each stop, organizers and artists presented a draft of the People’s Charter for Africa. Locals responded with art, poetry and commentary.
